Completing the first successful FH 2 for Kenai Schutzhund Club, Kelly B. and Kasina Vom Haus |
Nine Titles Earned in Kenai Schutzhund
Clubs July 2003 Trial
Trialing season is short in Alaska, so
participants in Kenai Schutzhund Club's second trial had only four weeks from the first trial to prepare for this event. The tracking fields in Palmer were about as good as it gets, six-inch high wet grass,
an occasional whisper of wind and overcast skies. All nine teams tracking
earned passing scores. The highlight was the 91 score for the FH 2 done by Kelly
B. and Kasina Vom Haus Grossen Hund.
By the time we got to the Hundeplatz
field at Anchorage, Alaska's Kincaid Park, the wind had picked up considerably and dark clouds threatened. Two of the three teams for the BH title triumphed on the field and during the traffic test. Kelly O. with Arctic Vixen's Jedi Mind Trick and Brigitte with Brigitte's Precious Baby Bear were
successful while Katherine with Mephistopheles Devil's Charm had some control issues during the off-lead healing and
did not pass. An attempt for an OB 1 by Brigitte and Austin Courage Pronounced
was thwarted by hesitation in the dumbbell work, and a 61 score.
A SchH A, three IPO 1s, three SchH 2s
and a SchH 3 rounded out the day. Energetic handling by Liv brought out a good performance in obedience (80) and
protection (87) from Nicko Vom Barock Schlossle for the SchH A. Even the moose browsing just off the field didnt distract
Nicko from his long down position about ten feet away. Trouble plagued Jeanine and
Prinzessin Zena Vom Schlacht during the obedience and protection portions of the IPO 1.
They barely squeaked by in obedience with 70 points, but Zena lost attention on the helper while guarding and was dismissed
with 36 points. Tom and both his dogs, Tygar Vom Haus Grossen Hund and Junior
Vom Haus Grossen Hund, demonstrated a strong performance in the IPO 1. Tygar
scored 96, 80, 90 and Junior earned 96, 84, 88 in the three phases. Since Tygar
was competing at a level lower than his current title, he was ineligible for awards.
Therefore, Junior received high in tracking and protection, and high in trial honors.
Sportiest handling and high score in
obedience went to Chris and Chrilo's Kona Nut Jones. Their 90, 85, 83 scores
culminated in a very good rating and 258 total for their SchH 2 title. Unfortunately
the other two SchH 2 teams did not fare as well. Dick and Asbach Zur Wildrose
came away with 82, 65, 71, and Shaun and Gretta Vom Haus Grossen Hund scored 82, 51, 67 in the three phases. Although not at the top of their game, Jim and Kayoz Vom Diener (Oz) did very well in their 8th
SchH 3 title, scoring 95, 84, 84 for a 263 total.
